Why Pete Sessions is running for Congress in TX-17

Born and raised in Waco, Pete Sessions is running for Congress because of the pivotal challenge we are facing today as a nation.

From Barack Obama and Bernie Sanders to Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Socialists in the U.S. House, their goal to “fundamentally change America” has been plainly stated on many occasions. Pete believes they have it exactly backwards: It is Washington that needs to be changed, not America.

The Democrats’ animus of President Trump is only tangentially due to his personality. The real source of their dislike is that the President has proven them wrong on almost every major issue left unresolved by the previous administration.

Since Donald Trump took office, the U.S. has defeated ISIS, expanded the economy at a faster clip than under Barack Obama, achieved its lowest unemployment rate in fifty years and has become the largest producer of oil and gas in the world.

This progress is due to policies implemented by the administration and laws passed by Congress, when Republicans controlled the House and Senate in the first two years of the Trump presidency.

As a congressman from Texas, Pete is proud of the role he played to spur economic growth by lowering taxes, keep America safe by rebuilding the military, and encourage domestic energy production by reducing the burden of federal regulations.

Pete is returning to his place of birth ‒ and the region where he went to college ‒ to help finish the job. His priorities are key policies of the conservative agenda still outstanding:

  • Immigration: Pass key reforms in the nation’s immigration laws backed by the President, as we complete construction of the wall and obtain true operational control of our borders and ports of entry, while enforcing all visa restrictions.
  • Federal Spending: Balance the budget by, first, freezing federal expenditures and, then, cut waste, fraud and abuse, which runs into the hundreds of billions of dollars every year. Pete was in Congress the last time we balanced the budget four consecutive years. We can do it again.
  • Health Care: The Democrat Socialists’ plan for putting our entire health care system into the hands of federal bureaucrats will reduce the quality of health care and lead to rationing of life-saving treatments, surgeries and prescription drugs. We can have high-quality health care at lower costs by reducing the role of government, repealing ObamaCare and replacing it with real reforms to health insurance.

And Pete will be a stalwart for the Right-to-Life and the protection of the Second Amendment, as he fights against the Democrats in their attempts to impeach or investigate President Trump or his administration without any true legal cause.

Republicans are experiencing a “brain drain” in the Texas congressional delegation, as six incumbents are retiring with more than eight decades of legislative experience. While we can be confident that capable and articulate conservatives are likely to replace those incumbents, it is also a fact that passing laws in Congress can be a frustratingly slow process.

Because of his past Chairmanship of the Rules Committee in the U.S. House, Pete knows what is possible as well as what is needed to limit the size and scope of the federal government. To build on the progress achieved by President Trump, Republicans will have to act decisively to enact legislation that makes a difference. Pete will be a valuable resource in passing those laws.

Of course, to pass new legislation, Republicans will have to regain the majority in the House. On that challenge as well, Pete has proven his value. In 2010, Pete served as Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, when Republicans won 63 seats, took back the majority and the speaker’s gavel from Nancy Pelosi. We can do this again … with the right leadership. Pete Sessions will be that kind of leader in Congress for Central Texas.
